Bil'in

This week we had again a medium size demonstration in Bil'in against the separation fence and occupation. Two dozen Israelis mobilized by the anarchists against the wall joined dozens of international activists and more than hundred Palestinians. A contingent of the Palestinian Popular Democratic Front (with Naif Hawatma pictures) joined with their sound system, flags, and speeches, the Bil'iners. The first demonstrators reached the near by north section of the fence and confronted verbally the Israeli soldiers. The core of the demo arrived at the west section of the fence at the gate to the route of the electronic fence (now, after long delay in the process of being replaced by one - more to the west following the verdict of the higher court of Israeli "justice".) After few minutes there, daring protesters opened the gate and few entered the route the state forces started to spray us with the stinking water forced us to distance a bit.

As the wind was with us - north eastern most of the time, the state force could not disperse us as they wish even with the added tear gas. A prolonged confrontation with the youth of the village who responded to the stinking water and gas with stones and half used tear gas canister near the gate and the other demonstrators a bit further, continued for more than an hour.

Ma’asara

About ten internationals and four Israelis joined a similar number of

Palestinians for the weekly demonstration at the village of Ma’asara,

protesting the stealing of Palestinian land for the separation wall, and

other crimes of the Israeli occupation. The demonstrators marched along

the road in an attempt to reach the villagers’ land, their chanting

accompanied by a solitary yet determined drum. Soon, the soldiers stopped

the march and tried to prevent the demonstrators from walking along the

road, “for their own safety”. When the demonstrators explained why they

are there and reminded the soldiers that they come in peace, the officer

pointed at the fields, saying: “Peace is this way”. Weary of Israeli

road-maps to peace, the demonstrators insisted on continuing along the

road. Finally they were allowed to go on, and after reaching a hill

overlooking the nearby settlement, they announced the end of the

demonstration and returned to the village, leaving three Palestinian flags

behind to continue the protest.

Ni'lin 4.3.2011

The weekly protest against the wall in Ni'lin was smaller than usual, and involved around 20 Palestinians and 6 Israelis. The march to the wall ended at the closed gate, where villagers demanded that the soldiers allow them to access their land. soldiers answered that it was a closed military zone, and responded to the handful of stones thrown over the wall with teargas. shortly after that soldiers crossed the wall and chased protesters, firing teargas canisters. No injuries were recorded.

Nabi Salah

The demonstration began after midday prayers. It was immediately put down, the demonstrators dispersed with rubber coated steel bullets, sound grenades and US-made tear gas, similar to those used against Egyptians in Tahrir Square. Israeli soldiers took over the main square for the afternoon as Palestinian youth clashed with the army on the outskirts of the village. The occupation forces intensify the harassment of the village people in a desperate effort to put end to the "bad example" of the Nabi Salah struggle which is beyond the struggles against the separation fence.

Qalandiya

Around 200 Palestinian women gathered near the entrance to Qalandiya refugee camp on Saturday to protest the occupation on the occasion of international Woman's day. Arriving from as far afield as Tulkarm, and East Jerusalem, the women, joined by international and Israeli activists, marched along the main road leading to the Qalandiya checkpoint chanting "the people want an end to the occupation". when the march reached the locked gate leading to the checkpoint, protesters pushed forward the gate, and hung Palestinian and DFLP flags on the gate, while chanting "Jerusalem is an Arab city". A few minutes after reaching the gate, border police officers who were in the checkpoint compound approached the protest announcing that it is illegal, and threw a stun grenade into the crowd of protesters, and fired tear gas and a bouncing stun grenade which exploded near the head of an international protester and scorched her hair and arm. a few stones were thrown back at the police officers. Following that, border police officers, together with soldiers and two armed, private security guards crossed the fence and approached Qalandiya camp, preparing to make arrests. The incursion failed to provoke any of the refugee camp's youth, and as the protesters dispersed by then, the soldiers proceeded no further. One woman fainted after inhaling teargas.

Violence and trauma grips Silwan once again

Silwan, Jerusalem (SILWANIC) -- Violent confrontations erupted in Silwan yesterday [Friday] , with clashes sparked in Samer Sarhan Street and spreading throughout various districts of the village. Witnesses state that in addition to firing heavy amounts of rubber bullets at protesters, Israeli forces have begun using a new type of tear gas. 17 Palestinians were reported injured, with many more suffering the asphyxiating effects of gas inhalation.

A Palestinian house was set alight and partially burnt in Baten al-Hawa after tear gas cannisters were fired inside. Confrontations then spread to Ras al-Amoud district, which saw some of the worst violence of the day, with Israeli forces firing gratuitous amounts of rubber-coated steel bullets and tear gas grenades.

Medical sources state that a total of 17 were injured due to the clashes, including 10 from Ras al-Amoud alone. Amongst the injured were several children below 16 years of age. Dozens more inhaled heavy quantities of tear gas, with one medic stating that they handled 34 such cases on the ground alone. Many residents were forced to medically assist others during the clashes. One woman, Suad al-Mimi, was transferred to hospital after experiencing difficulty in breathing due to gas inhalation.

Israeli activists launch a campaign against EU-US aiding and abetting the occupation and apartheid.

Israeli activists held a vigil on Thursday, March 3rd, at 19:00 in front of the US Embassy, 71 Hayarkon St. in Tel-Aviv.

The aim is to draw the world’s attention to the EU-US complicity in the occupation and apartheid.

The campaign follows last week's United States veto at the UN Security Council, against a draft resolution condemning Israeli settlements. The US veto is in opposition to the other 14 member states (including Britain, France, Germany, Russia, China, India and South-Africa). It disregards the request of the Palestinians – the direct victims of the settlement project.

The activists state that “The US presents itself as an “honest broker” in the Middle-East, a mediator and a conciliator between Israel and the Palestinians. In practice, however, it maintains “special security relations” with Israel and sees it as “The US aircraft carrier in the Middle East” . In addition to the US massive economic and

military support, it is its active support of Israeli crimes which maintains the prolonged occupation and apartheid.

Therefore, it is inevitable to regard the US as an accomplice to Israeli crimes and grave violations of International Law.”

Launching this new campaign, the activists hope to draw attention to the ongoing US and EU support of the Israeli occupation. Along with the raising of awareness, they call upon the US and EU member states to “join the international community in deed rather than words, and act towards the fulfillment of the Palestinian people's legitimate rights.”

Pointing the finger at the criminal policies of the US and the EU, they say: “Without their military, economic and diplomatic support, Israel could not possibly carry on its blatant disregard of International Law, ignore the world consensus and maintain the settlements project and its ethnic discriminatory regime. Even so, the direct responsibility still lies with the State of Israel.”

Today during the demonstration in Beit Omar, we walked towards the gate separating the village and the lands remaining, from the land stolen for the settlement Carmei Zur built on the stolen lands. Army forces waited on the path and blocked the way to the land and the gate. A few of the residents spoke about the stolen lands, explained to the soldiers that it is a peaceful demonstration and that they where sent to defend the settlers stealing the land, and showed the settlement to the many new demonstrators who came today. Only part of the activists of the AAtW who traveled from Tel Aviv succeeded to pass the road blokes.

Thousands of Palestinian demonstrators, together with dozens of Israelis and international activists marched in Hebron commemorating the 17th anniversary of the Cave of the Patriarchs massacre, perpetrated in 1994 by an Israeli settler backed by the Israeli regime and army, leading to the murder of 29 Palestinians.

The demonstrators demanded the opening of Shuhada street, which used to be the main street in Hebron and is closed to Palestinians since the massacre.

The demonstrators reached the army barriers on the street, but the army, who took control of the roofs of houses and shops in the streets, attacked them with grenades and heavy amounts of tear gas, which also spread inside the city, affecting many of the town's residents and bystanders.

Some Israeli and Palestinian activists were detained, and released some hours later. Issa from Hebron is at the hospital, not detained.

Non-violent protesters shot on sight; House attacked with tear gas; Israeli cameraman arrested in Nabi Saleh

This Friday in Nabi Saleh, as been the case almost every time in recent months, the army has shot tear gas projectiles immediately on the non-violent protesters' march against the occupation and settlements in Nabi Saleh. The attack was followed by an incursion of army soldiers throughout the village, declaring the village a “closed military zone”. Some protesters went outside the village and tried to ward off the army incursion from there by stone throwing. Many others went to their homes, but that still put them at risk as the army filled the village with tear gas and went inside houses to arrest people who are not residents of the village and threaten the residents. In such event one Israeli cameraman was arrested, and after he was taken, soldiers threw a tear gas hand grenade at the house where he was taken from. The grenade filled the populated roof with gas, and residents fled into the house's first floor. Clashes continued into the evening as the army repeatedly entered it and retreated, shot tear gas and rubber-coated metal bullets inside populated areas, harassing the entire population of the village. Some protesters were injured and required on-spot medical attention from the attacks.

In spite of reports that the Knesset's decision to investigate funding-sources of human rights NGOs, in Jerusalem the political persecution is still carried out. Just a few days ago the police arrested Jawad Siam of Silwan, a close partner of Solidarity, on a false accusation of breaking his house-arrest limitations. Notwithstanding this, Jawad's house-arrest was prolonged in another month. Solidarity activists protested in front of the police station where Jawad is kept at the night of his arrest.

Our only reaction to these attempts of intimidation

is to increase our civil activity and

carry the voice of protest ever louder .

Activists change street names in Tel Aviv to those in Hebron

Last Thursday evening, Israeli activists with the Anarchists Against the Wall changed the wording of a number of street signs in the heart of Tel Aviv to mark the closing of Hebron’s Shuhada Street. The action was done in connection with the international day of action to Open Shuhada Street in occupied Hebron/Al Halil. At 03h30 in the morning, activists changed street names on Tel Aviv’s popular Sheinken Street to read, “Shuhaha Street: Closed to Palestinians since 1994.” The activists were immediately arrested by police, who the activists believe, had been following them throughout the night. After one night in jail, the state asked that the activists be “barred from the Tel Aviv area for 90 days” as a punishment. Instead, the judge ordered the activists released with the condition that they do not engage in any illegal activity for 30 days. Both options seem strange on second reading considering that graffiti is an illegal act according to Israeli law. A judge ordering someone to refrain an illegal act for only period of 90 days is odd.

This is not the first time that activists have carried a political message to the public by changing street signs in Israel. Supporters of the immediate release of captured solider Gilad Shalit changed a number of street signs in West Jerusalem and Tel Aviv to read, “Gilad Shalit, Gaza.” No criminal changers or arrests have taken place in connection to these similar acts of political vandalism.

Around 5 army and civil administrative Jeeps waited for the demo. The demo got to the main road with out any problems and started walking on the side. After marching around 100 meters in silent the soldiers woke up and came and asked the demonstrators in a colonial and stupid manner to move to the other side of the iron balustrade (yaani maake) or that they will not be allowed to continue the demo. The demonstrators argued with the soldiers for another few minutes and refused to move. After a while the demonstrators went back to the village and where accompanied by the army for a short while. The two Israelis said goodbye and went to look at archaeological sites in the near area.

Demonstration against US support of Israeli settlements this Tuesday (22.2.11)

The General Union of Palestinian Youth in Palestine and the Diaspora are honored to invite you to join a demonstration against Israeli expansionism in Jerusalem and unconditional US support for the Israeli state. Bil'in

More than hundred Israelis and few dozens internationals joined Palestinian men and women of Bil'in and the region who marked 6 years of Friday demonstrations in the village against the separation fence and occupation. Thanks to a strong wind from the south the demonstrators managed to duck the smelly water cannon and sporadic shooting of gas and keep next to the fence, accompanied by drummers, a sound system, Palestinian politicians, and signs against the apartheid and the US veto signs. The shabab managed to tear down the external fence in a couple of spots and go between the fences. Later the army crossed the fence backed by showers of gas. A few demonstrators managed to stay close to the soldiers, preventing the shabab from trying to stone them away. As more demonstrators tried to approach they suffered heavy showers of gas, including canisters shot directly at demonstrators. The soldiers even shot at ambulances busy clearing the victims of the potentially lethal gas. During the direct confrontation with the soldiers one demonstrator sprayed a soldier's shield with an anti-wall slogan, and two other demonstrators were arrested (one was falsely charged with throwing stones, but both were released on the same day). Eventually the demonstrators declared the demo over, and walked back together with most of the journalists. The soldiers, however, remained where they stood, and so the shabab tried to make them retreat by throwing stones. In response, three soldiers ran forward, shot a string of live 0.22 bullets, and turned back. A boy of 17 was injured in his foot.

This is how the event was described by the Israeli press: "the army claims that he approached the soldiers with a sharp weapon and that they felt their lives were in danger". This is the standard format for a post-factum shooting which is illegal according to the army's own orders. The only surprising thing about this description is that Jawaher, who was killed by gas in a previous demo, was said to "not have participated in the demo at all and died from an atropine overdose at the hospital", rather than to have threatened soldiers with a sharp weapon. Of course, when the IDF spokesman finally makes its announcement, it might choose the standard format over the current one.

Like previous Tuesdays, demonstration in Lod Against House Demolitions 02/15/11

‎2 months ago, on a Monday morning during the largest storm of this winter, hundreds of masked and armed police special forces attacked 7 houses in Lod, which were considered illegally built on land owned by the residents. The residents, all Israeli citizens were expelled from their homes.

Nabi Saleh

The weekly march through the village of Nabi Saleh was slowed down by army threats to start fire. Soon enough they did shoot tear gas canisters at the protesters, invaded the village, made some arrests and attempted many more.

Close to the end of the day Nabi Saleh youth came to reclaim their village. The army responded with an immediate attack with tear gas. Later on the army used massive amounts of tear gas on the entire village and the "skunk" water tank to spray the center of the village with foul-smelling water that keep the place where they are shot at unfit for living for about a week and smelly for many weeks after. The soldiers and their vehicles were warded off by a "rain" of stones, and soon after the clashes ended at sundown.

Seven people were arrested today in Nabi Saleh during the weekly demonstration against the occupation and settlements, after the Israeli army invaded the village: two Palestinians, four Israelis and one international. They are still held by Israeli forces, and we are told that the two Palestinians were separated from the rest during their ride to Binyamin police station. This does not bid well for them and could mean that they are being sent to Ofer on the account of false soldiers' testimonies.

Saturday evening we had a demonstration in front of US embassy.

We had banners and placard and chanted against US support to Israeli occupation and settlers colonies in the West bank. Prominent were calls for EU and US B.D.S. (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) of Israel.

Protesters rally at US embassy in TA to slam UNSC veto

Around 50 protesters of the Anarchists Against the Wall initiative and other activists rallied outside the US Embassy in Tel Aviv on Saturday night, to protest the US veto on Friday of a UN Security Council resolution calling Israeli settlements ‘illegal’ and calling for an immediate halt in their construction.

Holding signs reading “stop US-supported occupation” and “Veto settlements, vote justice” and chanting “UN, US, it’s time for B.D.S.”, (Boycott, divestment, and sanctions against Israel) the demonstrators took issue with what they said is continued American approval and compliance with controversial Israeli policies.

Activist R. B. told The Jerusalem Post that the protest is part of “a new campaign pointing a finger at the US complicity in Israeli crimes.”

B. called the veto “just a continuation of the same policies of the US, which are going against the consensus of world opinion and civil society protests against Israeli actions. The veto clearly shows how utterly complicit the US is in funding and supporting Israeli crimes and shows again that Israeli apartheid is an American-Israeli project.”

Palestine-Israel, Some activities the anarchists against the wall AAtW initiative involved with last week

There are four main areas of struggles the AAtW activists are involved with: Joint struggle with communities that invite us to join like Bil'in and other struggles against the separation fence. Other joint struggles against occupation and settler colonialists like Nabi Saleh. Joint struggles with wider coalitions like Shekh Jarah coalition and South Hebron. The fourth is within Israel like prison and jail solidarity, Al Arakib and Lod. It seems that our confrontational and direct action mode of struggle is adopted by more and more Israeli radicals.

Al Arakib

More and more frequent the state forces come early in the morning to destroy the village and harass the Bedouins and Israeli activists who join them. After the state force leave - temporary dwellings are built.

Often, like this week Wednesday activists are arrested and prison solidarity activity is done the next day in Beer Sheva court house.

Updates from El Arakiv

The village of El Arakiv was destroyed on Feb. 7 2011 for the 13th time, and again on Feb.8

Yesterday and today bulldozers arrived from the Israeli Lands Administration and a large number of vans. They destroyed the village and took everything with them that could remind of the village. JNF workers continued to work on the site of the former houses to prepare planting a forest.

At the site of the village there are now dams and terraces. Most of the inhabitants of the village are now at the ancient graveyard, which is not destroyed, and run there their daily life.

Bil'in

29 Israelis and a bunch of internationals joined the Palestinian men and women of Bil'in for the weekly demo for peace and independence. This time the soldiers waited behind the fence. The shabab confronted them on the northern stretch, while the processions carried on westward. The soldiers retreated from the shabab on the north, but waited only a couple of minutes before they gassed the demonstrators on the west and charged across the fence. Most demonstrators retreated, but some remained amidst the soldiers, effectively serving as human shields for the soldiers facing the shabab. The soldiers continued to shoot gas at demonstrators who tried to advance, including, as usual, some potentially lethal shots aimed directly at demonstrators. Then the demo was declared over, and the shabab remained to try and disperse the army with stones and be shot at with live bullets.

On Saturday night Israel’s most-watched news program on Channel 2, aired a 10-minute “Special Report” on the weekly demonstrations in the Palestinian village of Bil’in. Every Friday, Palestinians of the village demonstrate against the separation fence which was built on their lands, and are joined by Israeli and international activists. This Friday in Nabi Saleh protesters couldn't believe their eyes as they were able to march through the village without been shot at, something they weren't able to do for months now, due to the Israeli border police and army harsh repression of the village protest. However, that was just a brief pause before the usual repressive measures were launched against the entire village population. The protest began with the burning of tires on the main road, aimed at blocking the Israeli forces from invading the village by vehicles. Once Israeli soldiers invaded the village by foot, some protesters attempted to ward them off by throwing stones and soon enough every living civilian in the village became an army target, either by live ammunition, rubber coated still bullets, tear gas canisters or arrests. Some of the protesters went outside the village and clashed with the army in the surrounding hills. When they returned to the village, the army retreated to its built post next to the village entry and clashes continued there until sundown. At the end of the day, six people were detained for hours and then released, all of them arrested for simply remaining in the village after the army incursion. Among the arrestees were three Palestinians who are residents of the village, two internationals and one Israeli. The internationals and Israeli first had their ID card and passports taken from them during the demo, and when they came to retrieve them after the clashes had ended (as did three other Israeli protesters who had their IDs taken) – they were arrested.

The local committee for building and planning in Jerusalem approved today to building plans for 13 housing units for settlers in Sheikh Jarrah (in the area of Um Haroun).

The plans were brought in front of the committee approximately 2 hours before they were scheduled, and so even the residents of Um Haroun could not be present for the discussion.

Sheikh Jarrah Solidarity movement/coalition organized a demonstration in front of the Jerusalem Municipality protesting their past in the settler take over of Sheikh Jarrah. In this demonstration four activists were arrested and at least one of them will have a court hearing today.

The on going struggles the few dozens activists of the Israeli Anarchists Against the Wall initiative began in Maskha camp 2003 on the route of separation fence. Last week: the demonstrators reached the fence but had to retreat because of the skunk. Then they went on to the northern part of the fence. At this point the army kidnappers flooded everything with gas and crossed the wall to chase the demonstrators away.

This week: The army crossed the wall before the demo and shot gas while the demonstrators were still on their way. Some demonstrators managed to cross the wall of gas and confronted the soldiers with slogans, signs and umbrellas. The army kept other demonstrators from joining by shooting more gas. When the demonstration was declared over and everyone retreated the apparently Mubarak supporting soldiers cowardly gassed the retreating demonstrators.

Nabi Saleh

Last Sunday, January 23rd, at 2AM, military forces violently arrested a 14 years old at his house in Nabi-Saleh. The boy was held handcuffed and blindfolded in the cold till morning, and was then taken to an 8 hours police interrogation. His lawyer, waiting outside the police station, was not allowed to meet the minor till only after 4 hours of the interrogation, and his parents were not informed (as a minor, his right, even according to the military law, is to be interrogated in the presence of his parents).

The military court (after outrageous failures of its own) might release him tomorrow, February 1st, to house arrest. One of the conditions for the release is to find two Israeli citizens to sign a bail for him.

Nabi Saleh Marches with the People of Egypt

Despite pounding rain and aggressive repression tactics employed by the army, the village of Nabi Saleh marched Friday in solidarity with the people of Egypt. The demonstration was also in honor of 14 year Nabi Saleh resident Islam Tamimi, who was arrested in a night raid in the village almost three weeks ago and remains in jail.

Even before the demonstration was slated to begin, the army had taken positions inside the small village of Nabi Saleh, located just west of Ramalla. Soldiers briefly detained three Israeli supporters around 10:30 in the morning inside the village. The activists were taken to the village entrance and told to leave and not return. They were able to enter from a different point and join the demonstration later in the day.

Dozens of Palestinian, international and Israeli activists marched holding posters of 14 year Islam Tamimi, who has been in an Israeli military jail for almost three weeks. The demonstration was also in solidarity with the people of Egypt. Across the West Bank, popular committees held demonstrations in solidarity with Egypt.

The demonstration was attacked with tear gas, the same American made gas used against protesters Egypt and Tunisia, before reaching the main junction of the village. Soldiers then took over the square of the village and forced protesters into the olive grooves surrounding Nabi Saleh. Despite the pounding rain, soldiers maintained positions inside the village until five in the evening.

Two international activists were detained for roughly three hours during the demonstration and no injuries other than tear gas inhalation were reported. The village has been suffering serious repression by the Israeli army over the past month. Weekly night raids, the systemic arrest of children and threaten popular committee leaders has become a mainstay of life in Nabi Saleh. Despite this, the people still resist the Israeli occupation and march in solidarity with the people of Egypt and Tunisia who are fighting for the spirit of freedom.

Yesterday some 30 Israeli and international activists joined the Palestinian demo against the wall and the settlements.

We marched down to the route of the wall and passed with no problems, and then up the hill to the gate of the Efrat that sites on wad Rahal's land and is planing to take more lands with the help of the wall. We chanted slogans and played drums in front of the gates without any violence of violent threats. within a few minutes an army car came and an officer of the IOF commanded us to leave. we didn't agree and were tear gassed and sound bombed and one was arrested. the people of the demo then went back to the rout of the wall and went on with the demo, after being gassed again the went to the entrance to the village, some 10 meters away, and would not go away, even as tear gas and sound bombs were still thrown. The demand to let the prisoner go was finally answered and he was let go. the people then marched back up the village chanting slogans and playing drums.

A group of Palestinian, Israeli and international activists demonstrated peacefully in the village of Wad Rahal, south of Bethlehem, against plans to erect a wall, and land confiscations and house demolitions which have already begun as a result of these plans.

Despite the protest being completely non-violent, with the demonstrators drumming and shouting slogans, the Israeli army arrived at the scene and immediately attacked the demonstrators with grenades and tear gas.

This is an example of how the Israeli army treats non-violent protests of Palestinians in the West Bank.

The passing week has been another one of oppression. The settlers who murdered the youth Yousef Ikhlay from Saffa are still roaming free. The village of El-Arakib was demolished once again. Yet, the inspiring pictures from Egypt show us that an alternative does exist. That popular resistance and solidarity can still change reality, tear down oppressive regimes and pave the road to a better world.

Tomorrow (Monday) there will be a discussion about the expansion of the Jewish settlement in Sheikh Jarrah at the local committee of the Jerusalem Municipality. They are planning to build 10 housing units in the house already owned by Moskovich in Um Haron (part of Sheikh Jarrah), and build 3 housing units next to the public garden where the demonstrations are held.

Saturday evening, about 200 participated in a solidarity demonstration with the Egyptian in center of Tel Aviv. The initiative was by veterans of the 1970s Israeli Black Panthers. It was joined by mainly non political party activists. About 30 of the local anarchist scene were the largest group in the vigil - the second largest was Solidarity Sheikh Jarrah contingent that came from Jerusalem with the drums circle. Part of the Anarchists Against the Wall activists were fresh from the Beit Umar Saturday joint struggle.

Friday demo was again a small one. Two dozen Israelis of the AAtW initiative, similar number of internationals, and Palestinians of the region joined the people of Bil'in in about 100 strong demo - the last month of the sixth year of Friday demos in Bil'in.

Delegation of MPs of Chile contributed to the restrain of Israeli state forces who used mainly the stinking water to make people retreat from the separation fence.

At the end, the shower of tear gas was shot on us and the demo was gradually dispersed.

The joint struggle continue

Friday demonstration against the separation fence and occupation. About 50 activists: 20 Israelis, 20 Palestinians and 10 internationals marched on the the way to the lands threatened by the separation fence. The Israeli state force was ready to disperse the demo... but a road accident happened at the usual location of confrontation.

Two cars clashed - one with Palestinian who got out without injury and one with settler women and child who were trapped

All rushed to the cars, but soldiers did nothing - only a Palestinian youngster and Israeli demonstrator helped the injured settler and child out of the wreckage. .

One of the village comity declared the dispersing of the demo but the Israeli state forces pushed violently the retreating demonstrators and added shock grenades.

Large military forces, including bulldozer and a truck, are surrounding Nabi-Saleh.

Several houses were threatened with destruction during the last year in an attempt to stop the popular struggle.

This joins a recent concentrated effort of the military to break the spirit of the village people with frequent night raids, and including the arrest of a 14 years old kid and the arrest of his 11 years old brother for several hours today.

"Police fire sponge bullets at Israeli citizens in al-Araqib

The Bedouin village of Al-Araqib was destroyed for the 9th time on Sunday morning in the wasteland of Israeli democracy. Today police forces were back in Al-Araqib destroying make-shift structures which had been erected over night. Villagers resisting the takeover have been arrested and beaten, with eyewitnesses reporting use of sponge bullets. Based on villagers’ and activists’ accounts, the state is planning a major offense to erase the village once and for all in order to make room for a forest to be planted by the Jewish National Fund (JNF).

As I write this, a group of Israeli citizens are standing in their family graveyard. The graveyard has stood in the same spot of land in the middle of Negev for the past eighty years. If they leave the area of the graveyard, they will be arrested. They remain in the graveyard watching their village being destroyed in front their eyes. Israeli activists from Tel Aviv and Jerusalem [of the AAtW, Ta'ayus, Solidarity Sheikh Jarrah and others] who joined them report that the police are firing sponge bullets to encourage the people to leave the graveyard. Between 6 and 13 people have been arrested for refusing to leave the village. Some of the arrested are reportedly being taken to the hospital due to police brutality during the arrests. The citizens standing in the graveyard are Bedouin and the state is erasing their village in order to plant a forest.

Since the summer of 2010, Israel has leveled the village of al-Araqib nine times. According to a press release from the Israeli activists group Hithabrut-Tarabut,

The demonstrators organized themselves in front of the wall in a large peace sign, with each person holding a picture of Pollak's face. This was in order to send a message to the world that the people of Bil'in are standing in peace against the occupation and the effect it has on those who take action against the it. The soldiers responded with spraying the demonstrators standing in the peace sign with waste water contaminated with chemicals, followed by tear gas, sound bombs, and rubber bullets. Dozens of people suffered from tear gas inhalation and from being sprayed with the waste water.

Solidarity with Jonathan Pollack

Two Friday demonstrations in the West Bank has been dedicated to the day of solidarity with the Speaker of the popular committees against the wall and settlements, Jonathan Pollack, one of the founders of the AAtW, who began serving a week ago three months imprisonment. The army responded with gas and arrests.

In Bil'in two hundred protesters [50 Israelis, about this number Internationals, and Palestinian of the village and from the region], marched to the separation fence and called for their release. When demo reached the fence, protesters formed a peace symbol-shaped, pose it on purpose to send the pictures to jail Hermon, where Jonathan is incarcerated. Then few demonstrators entered the route of the the fence to protect the barrier, hang the pictures on the electronic fence. The army was quick to intervene smelly skunk spraying water, the wind carried back at the soldiers.

The Eastern wind prevented the swift dispersing of demo with tear gas as the state force usually do, and the demonstration lasted another hour, facing some more skunk water and rather small amount of tear gas. The demonstrators were able to tear some of the outer fence, and some youths threw stones at the truck skunk. The relatively low level of violence of the army can be explained by the wind that also "benefited" the soldiers with skunk water tear gas, but mostly as a crew of Israeli TV 2 accompanied protesters.

Despite the media presence that caused the army to change the patterns of activity in the extreme, they could not restrain themselves long enough, and at the end of the demonstration after its end was declared and everyone began to return to the village the soldiers decided to cross the fence and run after the departing people, and started a massive fire of tear gas for about half an hour after the end of the demonstration. It will be interesting to see how the events will be reported in the Israeli TV 2.

Al Ma'asara

"Meanwhile in Ma'asra a smaller parade was held. 15 Israelis and few internationals joined a score of the villagers. They carried pictures of Jonathan Polk who was often arrested at the demonstration area. They were stopped by soldiers at the exit from the village towards the fence, not yet built. As the soldiers did not allow the march of protesters to exit from the village, most of them set on the road in protest. After few minutes, a high ranking officer hollered on the soldiers commanding them to push the demonstrators towards the village. Gradually the demo was dispersed. One Israeli demonstrator was arrested when he tried to bypass the soldiers."

Nabi Saleh

Protesters break the siege on Nabi Saleh

This Friday the Nabi Saleh demonstration against the occupation started in the neighboring village Beit Rima, from which a march to Nabi Saleh went directly through the army post. Some 60 people marched through the road chanting songs of resistance. The army kept retreating until it stopped near Nabi Saleh village and allowed the protesters to pass through and arrive to Nabi Saleh. Every Friday the Israeli army blocks all road entrances to Nabi Saleh as a collective punishment measure for demonstrating. This time the demonstrators' first act was to break this siege.

After reaching the village, the demonstrators attempted to continue walking through the main street but were violently stopped by the army soldiers using stun grenades. One 10 year old boy was attacked by a soldier with pepper spray. After a while protesters went away from the soldiers. Some youth attempted to ward off the army incursion by stone throwing. The army took control of several roofs in the village, and used tear gas extensively inside the village populated area. Some youth managed to escape the army grip on the village and clashed with soldiers in the surrounding hill

Nights rides

During the last two weeks, the military has started using another familiar mode of oppression against the courageous people of Nabi-Saleh - frequent night raids including house visits. Up until tonight, most of the incursions were focused on photographing the village youth, mainly of minors, and in many cases even of kids under 12 (not criminally liable).

Tonight, (Saturday) at around 2AM, the soldiers violently arrested a 14 years old in his house. He is currently anticipating interrogation.

South of Heron Mountain

"On Saturday January 22nd, 2011 we will visit the Southern Hebron Hills to clean water cisterns demolished by the army.

The Palestinian residents of the Southern Hebron Hills are dependent for their water supply on cisterns, located between the villages. The Civil Administration recently demolished 13 of these cisterns. The settlers and the military also prevent the Palestinians from accessing other cisterns in order to perform maintenance work, necessary to guarantee that the water drawn from them can still be used."
