Palestine-Israel, The world economic and power struggle turbulence diverge the struggle*

It is a long way since the first struggle of the anarchists against the wall started in the Mas'ha camp nine years ago. The joint struggle against the separation fence persist and expand to other locations and to other aspects of the occupation. The struggle also expand in the old boundaries of Israel to the social struggle of dwelling problems and gentrification in both Jewish and Palestinian communities, and to the general social struggle against the piggish neo-liberalism. The focus of struggle regarding guest workers harassments shifted to the refugees struggle against persecution, mass arrests and deportation. The bogus preparations of the war mongers for bombing of Iran initiated lot of vigils.

Beit Ummar

A 12 year old Palestinian boy was Saturday kicked in the leg by an Israeli soldier, knocking him to the ground. Protesters gathered around him and he was carried away from the soldiers, where he recovered with no major physical damage. The Commander of the Israeli forces in the village refused to comment on the kicking of the boy when questioned.

Bil'in

Israeli activists of the anarchists against the wall initiative, a German and Spanish delegates participated in the Friday protest along with the local residents and other international activists.
"About 10 Israelis and over 20 internationals joined the weekly Palestinian demonstration against the wall and occupation in Bilin. We marched to the wall, crossed the barbed wire "protecting" it, and within less than a minute were bombarded with tear gas. The unfavorable wind forced us away, but some demonstrators regrouped a little further north and stood their guard despite the tear gas, sound bombs and skunk water. Then some kids braved the rubber bullets with their stones for a while, until the demonstration was declared over, and we went to greet Nizar (the older son of Abu Nizar - a member of the local popular comity against the separation fence) at his wedding."

Protest against archaeological conference at the City of David settlement, Silwan, East Jerusalem, 6.9.2012 - Israeli activists hold a protest against the Judaization of East Jerusalem in front of the City of David settlement in Silwan, East Jerusalem, on September 6, 2012.
The protest took place as Elad, which is responsible for the settlement, held its 13th annual archaeological conference, showcasing its achievements in excavating Silwan and restoring the neighborhood's supposed Jewish heritage. Alongside its extensive archaeological and tourist activities, Elad also established several residential settlements in Silwan, establishing a Jewish presence at the hearth of a Palestinian neighborhood, and setting in motion a chain of events which last year resulted in a series of clashes with hundreds of arrests and at least two deaths.

The protesters marched till the entrance of the village where the occupation forces were waiting for them. The soldiers prevented them to reach their land by creating a cordon. The protesters commemorated the 30th anniversary of Sabra and Shatila, which will take place on the 17th of September.

Qaddum 7,9,2012

When we reached the road to the village journalist teams told us that the road is blocked, so we parked the car and walked on foot to the village through the olive orchards so we arrived a bit late. At the outskirts of the village we were greeted warmly by the Shabab with cold water. We were told also that the whole village is surrounded. They told us about the beginning of the demonstration we missed: 'the march began as usual and after burning tires and shabab protesters dispersed throughout the whole village. Rock barriers were built every where as night raids are common and the village activist were ready. On all the roofs of the village were boys and men informing the demonstrators about every movement of the army."
After we drank, we joined the Shabab and called the soldiers to lay down their arms and join the demonstration for a joint Jewish-Arab protest, for peace equality and social justice. We explained to the soldiers the Supreme Court verdict that the disputed road should be open and about the price paid by the villagers as it is being closed. The soldiers were also warned not to obey orders to avoid standing trial at the International Tribunal for war crimes in The Hague... Surprisingly none of the soldiers put his weapon down and none of them joined us.
After burning another round of tires we find out the army raided the village by a bulldozer, two jeeps and infantry. The jeeps movement was difficult due to the barriers and the roofs people constantly guided the protesters how to escape them. So thanks to the excellent organization of the demonstration non were injured, detained or arrested.
During the hustle and bustle we found ourselves at the back yard of a family who offered us cold water, tea and coffee. Antennas of jeeps appear occasionally as jeeps turned around in circles on the few roads that were not blocked.
After about 20 minutes the army left the village, we thanked our hosts and returned home from the demonstration.

This coming Saturday, September 8, too. we need as many activists as possible to accompany them and stand up for their rights. There is a direct link between the number of activists who come to accompany the farmers and their ability to harvest and work their lands.

Following the excellent demonstration we conducted in front of the government complex (https://www.facebook.com/events/484334461578940/) we are going to enter into the heart of public sphere. We will meet at the corner of Habima and march throughout the Rothschild Boulevard. We will stop and try to convince people to support us.

The soldiers provided Eritreans tarps to cover themselves from the burning sun. The soldiers received an order to give asylum seekers "as little water as possible."
Until yesterday (05/09/2012) The IDF prevented the transfer of food brought by social activists to the asylum seekers at least twice.

The order not to allow social activists to pass food to the asylum seekers is illegal, and unfortunately until they were told otherwise, the IDF soldiers at the scene complied. We call them to change their stance and refuse not to pass food asylum seekers. We call to punish and/or press charges to those who should have disobeyed this shameful order and the commander\s who ordered it.

Activists blocking a main street in Tel Aviv on September 8, 2012 during a protest calling for social justice. We were about 200 participants only, but the police got an order to tolerate us. For about two hoers we marched along the Iben Gvirol main street blocking the traffic to the north. from time to time we converged for a while on specific targets like the war minister home, and banks, and occupied for a while the main intersections along the route. Speeches and chants were produced by the participants and loud-speakers.

Palestine-Israel, The joint struggle continue in turbulent times

In addition to the regular locations of struggle the anarchists against the wall combine forces with the local popular comities of activists: Beit Ommar, Bil'in, Ma'asara, Nebi Saleh, Ni'ilin, and Qadum, comrades joined additional struggles. Sheikh Jarrah, South of Hebron Hills, and within Israel: Haifa regional court, Saharonim concentration camp, and demos against the war mongering. The uncertainty regarding the exploding of the Tycoons bauble, the economy slump, the war mongering regarding Iran and the scandalous treatment of the refugees dump a bit the energy of the activists. The continuous and escalating of transfer efforts of Palestinians farmers in the main targets of Jordan valley, South of Hebron Hills and the hoses demolitions result in may minutes of felt helplessness.

"The following week after Nabi Saleh mother and activist was ripped from her daughter's arms, this Friday Palestinians from all over the west bank came to show their support to the village. For the army, nothing has changed. This is the law in these parts. Artists, you can take a stand against it. Cancel your show in Israel!"
The weekly Friday demonstration in Nabi Saleh commemorating Rachel Corrie was met with violence by the Israeli military. Soldiers used tear gas, rubber coated steel bullets, skunk water and live ammunition as they attempted to suppress protesters.
Breaking news: reports from activists in Nabi Saleh that a Palestinian youth has been shot in the stomach with live ammunition. He has been evacuated by ambulance.
‎5 arrested in Nabi Saleh so far, amongst them, local cameraman, Bilal Tamimi. Meanwhileת Bil'in, popular committee leader, Muhammad Khatib who participated, got arrested.

South of Hebron Hills

Solidarity with what Israel claim to be "fire zone 918"

Solidarity Visit in the Villages Slated for Demolition in the South Hebron Hills ("Firing Zone 918").

The residents of the villages, together with the activists and groups active in the area, invite you to a solidarity visit in the villages which stand in immediate danger of demolition by the Israeli army and its "Civil Administration." The Israeli Minister of Defense, Ehud Barak, recently gave orders to destroy eight Palestinian villages in the South Hebron Hills and to expel from their lands the 1,500 residents of the area. The residents are defined, in the Minister's statement, as "squatters on Firing Zone 918." This definition blatantly ignores historical documentation which proves that these villages have existed for hundreds of years. "Firing Zone 918," on which the army is demanding it be able to train so as to "preserve the necessary competence of the IDF's forces," encompasses 30,000 dunams (over 7,000 acres) in the South Hebron Hills, including privately owned land and farming areas. Under the interim agreement that followed tho Oslo Accord and that was signed in 1995 60.2% of the West Bank is defined as "Area C," meaning that it is under complete Israeli civil and military control (this agreement was supposed to expire within five years from its signing). The Israeli Government has since pursued a consistent policy in Area C aimed at deepening the permanent Israeli control over the area and to minimize the ability of Palestinians to live in it . This policy is implemented through a number of different methods: confiscation of lands via unilateral declarations of "State Land", "National Parks" and "Special Security Zones"; through the non-provision of building permits (over 95% of the applications for permits filed by Palestinians between 2000 and 2009 were denied), the subsequent demolition of houses and structures built without permits,` through the intentional lack of master plans for the area (which enables Israel to decide and declare virtually anything as an "illegal structure"), and, of course, through closing areas declared as "Army Training Areas" or "Firing Zones." About 18% of the West Bank has been declared closed "Firing Zones." The existence of Israel's regime of separation and discrimination is nothing new for the South Hebron Hills or for Palestinians living in Area C in general. At the same time that this threat of demolition hangs over the heads of these eight villages, and others in the area, including Susiya, dozens of settlement outposts are being constructed and established in the same area, without hindrance.

The threat of eviction has hung over these eight villages since 1999. Their fate is to be decided now!

On August 31 we will go on a solidarity visit in some of the villages slated for demolition. come show support, ask questions, and see for yourself the villages which Israel's government and army intend to erase.

Palestine-Israel, the joint struggle and the activities within Israel

The Israeli state forces escalate their repression lately. Their main target are pressure on Palestinian farmers to transfer out from the Jordan valley and the south of Hebron hills, and the joint struggle against settlers expansion and Israeli state terror at Beit Ummar, Nebi Saleh, and Qadum. All along the last weeks there are demonstrations and vigils against the intended bombing attack of Israel on the nuclear facilities of Iran. Few of them in front of the security compound at Kaplan street, others were mainly in front of the not far away apartment tower where the security minister Barak live. Israel Putermam video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QPUnMJIBJM At the security compound. The struggle against the harassment of refugees and the social struggle continue too but no large masses are involved.

Bil'in

The end of the Summer is still hot in Bil'in this Friday. As Usual most of us went by car from the village center to the Abu Lamun park near the separation wall. About a dozen Israelis, two dozen internationals, a delegation of youth from Nablus (with eggs) and Bil'iners, started the demo by approaching the near by wall with the usual chants.
After a while the eggs started to fly in the direction of the soldiers piping behind the wall. Slowly the state forces tried to make us smell the Fragrance of Israel using the spray of Skunk like flavored water. The northern winds carried the water away but still forced us to keep a distance from the wall. Only after about half an hour the real shower of tear gas canisters was shot on us.
The second wave of tear gas marked the end of the demonstration and we returned to the village.

"Rough day in Nabi Saleh. Massive forces of IOF and border police invaded the village. They were instructed to break the doors of the houses, and get everybody out. Many Palestinian and Israelis have been arrested, no accurate numbers yet. Amongst the Arrestees, Nariman Tamimi. A Palestinian youth lost two fingers. The soldiers shot directly at his hand. It isn't clear whether they were using direct impact or live ammo bullets. They are using live ammo inside the village".
After being driven from one settlement to another for a good few hours all the detainees were recently released at the entrance to Nabi Salih. With no conditions or bail.

Palestine-Israel, In spite of the pick of the Summer heat, the Ramadan day hours fasting and the war mongering in Israel

After years of Friday demos in Bil'in and Saturdays and weekly days demos in other locations I took a break and traveled to the St-Imier international anarchist congress celebrating 140 years of struggle. I presented there three venues: one, the film Bil'in Habibti (Bil'in my love of Shai Polak) with discussion of the struggle in Bil'in, One about the Israeli Anarchists Against the Wall initiative, and one about the Anarchist psychotherapy I developed (http://ilan.shalif.com/psychology/content1.htm). Nothing can compare to a week with thousands of anarchists of all trends from all over the world - meeting in person comrades I work with for years. The struggle in Israel continued with out me and some reports cover the activities I missed.

Bil'in Friday 10.8.2012

25 Palestinians, 12 Israelis and 10 internationals marched towards to the wall calling for the end of the occupation, freedom for Palestine and for soldiers to refuse. After some of the shabab started removing parts of the barbed wire fence 'protecting' the 8m high concrete wall and after some rather well aimed stone throwing the skunk machine was revved up and due to the winds there was no need to be close to get the stink. Then came a barrage of tear gas. From the distance the soliders were to us many of the tear canisters landed dangerously close to the protesters missing many of us by centimeters. After a short amount of relative calm and after the shabab returned down towards the wall, we followed and again a huge amount of tear gas was used. This time encasing the protesters and solidarity activists with gas from all sides. Soon after this the shabab started to return to the village singing and chanting to their victory march. Upon our return to the village we were then hosted by the wonderfully hospitable Burnat family. Ramadan Kareem and wishing all a good weekend.
Dvid Reeb video at http://youtu.be/uRyRKoJr6Hg

Friday 17-8-12. The end of the Ramadan demo. 11 Israelis, dozen internationals and 20 Bil'iners demonstrated as usual against the separation wall and occupation.
After a while the spray of stinking water forced most of us to retreat a bit. Later, plenty of tear gas canister forced nearly all of us to retreat further. After a while we ended the demo and returned to the village.

Qaddoum

Friday 17-8-12 Five Israelis some two hundred fifty international and Palestinians, demonstrated today in Qadum. As usual protest march began towards the forbidden road. Dozens of shabab were prepared with tires igbhtrd as soon as we reached the road. And put barricades and obstacles in the way - respect. The army has responded to with plenty of tear gas. Half an hour later dozens of soldiers stormed towards the center of the village, a bulldozer cleared the road from stones and the soldiers just descended on the village frantic like a vulture on the prowl. mass arrests in the weekly demo in Qaddoum. Current reports speak of several dozens of Palestinians, over ten internationals - one of them even accused as if was throwing stones, and 3 Israelis. The hand of one of the Palestinians and the leg of another were broken (as the heritage of the late prime minister Rabin promote: "break their legs and arms".)

The army remained a while for a rampage in the village, shoot some tear gas and then retreated and left. The demonstration ended with singing and triumph.
The four journalists were released immediately. The Israelis and the Internationals were also released after questioning and the usual conditions: third party signed bail, and suspension for two weeks from Samaria. Unfortunately and pain, Abdullah and Qasim were not released. They were led handcuffed to Hawara accused of throwing stones.

No violent confrontations were developed.

Saturday, only about 500 people gradually converged at the national theater square late afternoon. After some words we marched with various chanting on the pavements towards the place where Moshe Silman ignited himself there at a previous demo and died a month ago. After a speech and a minute of silence we continued towards the building of the government offices - this time occupying the main street itself. There some speeches and chants for a long while. Afterwards most of the people marched to the tent camp of Homeless people near the train station.

Palestine-Israel, The joint struggle and the social struggle continue in the middle of the hot Summer.

Due to the Ramadan day fasting weeks the joint struggle in the various villages was not as usual. As compensation our comrades were involved in the various demos in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. In Jerusalem a pink-black block participated in the gay parade. In Tel Aviv comrades demonstrated on Wednesday the Susia demolition orders at the military radio station. On Saturday comrades participated in the commemoration meeting of the massacre at the gay club three years ago. Not far away, we had the social struggle - Occupy Tel Aviv. In spite of a competition by a reformist split of the movement meeting promoted by media and hired leafleting workers, our march and demo was even better than the three previous Saturday demos of July. Tomorrow, I am on my way to the international anarchist congress in St-Imier Swiss, commemorating the 140 anniversary of the first anarchist congress there.

Bil'in

16 Israeli activists with the anarchists against the wall initiative, joined 15 internationals and 2 dozen people of Bil'in in the Friday weekly demonstration against the separation wall, the robbery of Bil'in lands for expanding the near by settler colonialist town Modi'in Elit, and against the pccupation (both the 1948 Nakba and the 1967 Naksa).
As spesial treatment for the ramadan, the shabab brought a tray of eags for the Israeli soldiers who stay behind the wall. Not sure who started first this time but not long after the more dearing ones approached the wall, a "duel" of tear gas grenade shooting and eags started. The strong northern wind enabled us to navigate between the exploading tear gas canisters and the salvos of stinking skunk water spraied at us. For about an hour we received our weekly dose of tear gas - non suffered too much befor yielding to the heat and the Ramadan day fasting and returning to the village. There, most of the Israelis and the internationals enjoied the usual long hospitality of the Burnat family before leaving the village.

Nabi Saleh

Settlers criminals backed by the Israeli government repeatedly burned and cut down olive trees in the village of Nabi Saleh
Jewish settlers attacked last night [Tuesday], fields of olive trees belonging to residents of Nabi Saleh, north of Ramallah, olive trees found burned and cut and shouting to
Friday, unarmed demonstration in Nabi Saleh about to start. Activists report around 150 people in attendance.
Activists report that IOF have withdrawn from the village and are on the mountain.
IOF have moved back into the village and continue to fire teargas, rubber bullets and stun grenades from the gas station and from within the village between houses. They are searching and aresting Israelis and interntional activists.
Six Israeli activists, 4 internationals and one Palestinian were detained in the weekly demo.
According to reports from activists in Nabi Saleh, at least 3 of 6 arrestees are journalists and have been beaten. Reports also indicate that Israeli activist and writer, Miko Peled was one of the arrested, and was hit/beaten and used as a human shield. Four of the Israeli acitivsts arrested were released only ater 6 hours, with two week exclusion order.

Nil'in

Ni'lin is an occupied Palestinian town in the Ramallah and al-Bireh Governorate in the central West Bank. The residents of Ni'lin and international activists, have been staging weekly demonstrations against a nearby expansion of the Israeli West Bank barrier. It has been estimated that the completion of the barrier will remove half of Ni'lin's land
Today's demonstration in Nil'in is commemorating the 4th anniversary to the brutal murder of 10 year old Ahmad Mousa. Protestors have reached the gate at the apartheid wall and IOF have opened fire with teargas.

Sheikh Jarrah

Weekly Vigil at Sheikh Jarrah Friday 3/8 at 17:00

Tel Aviv

Demo at military radio station about Susia demolition order on Wednesday:
Palestinians Susya whole village at risk. The Civil Administration issued demolition orders for dozens of buildings in the village. If orders are exercised will be the third expulsion of the Susya residents from their land.
Despite being a village in Area C, ie, an Israeli administrative responsibility in, the village is not connected to infrastructure, does not receive basic civic services and does not get building permits. In contrast, the illegal settler colonialist outposts in the area all connected to all the services required. This is apartheid Israeli at its naked exposer.
In addition, settlements and outposts around the village for residents create an impossible reality. Harassments everyday, destruction of crops, attacks of people, stealing goats and equipment, graffiti of defamations and threats with "price tag". These are all to inflicted on the Susia villagers under the auspices of "security forces" of the Israeli army forces. State of Israel seeks to carry out ethnic cleansing in southern Mount Hebron, to expand settlements and Judaize the area, maximum land under Jewish control with a minimum presence of Palestinians if at all.
Army Radio, will broadcast tomorrow night the program "summer campaign of Radio", hosted by Idan Kevlar. Broadcasting each week a program from other City across the country". The program will air tomorrow from a settlement "town" sitting on the land of Susya.
The military radio station serves as a vehicle of military mendacious propaganda disguised as journalist, trying to white wash the dirt that cannot be cleaned.
Today, [Wednesday] few dozen activists demonstrated at the Jaffa neighborhood of Tel Aviv where the military radio station is located.
Jaffa, Susiya the same revolution! Signs hanging in the evening demonstration at the entrance to the base radio station in Jaffa. Military propaganda station which chose to broadcast a special program of settlement located near the land of the west bank Palestinian village Susya which was issued demolition order. The Israeli Ministry of De fence and the Civil Administration want to destroy Susia as part of the cleansing of the C area of the occupied west bank from its Palestinian villages. The message was that Jaffa is not silent, and sends a message of support to the village Susiya's just struggle.

Saturday

In spite of media refraining from inform on the radical ("servants") demonstration and promoting the reformist ("wannabe masters") one, about two thousands participated with us.
We converge late evening in at the national theater square, and then marched to the state office building at Begin Road. For about 4 hours the Kaplan St. and Begin Road were occupied. (The other one supported by some of the tycoons and centrist party in building succeeded to lure 5 thousand participants.)
After state forces dispersed most of these present at midnight, some of the activists remained on the steps of the state offices building to say good morning and good week to the bureaucrats. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151164370028072 http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151093430394208

8 activists were arrested.

Palestine-Israel, The joint struggle in the middle of the hot Summer and the Ramadan

On the background of the Israeli war mongering focused on the Iranian nuclear initiative, Israel intensify it steps for hose demolition and transfer of Palestinians from area C which is 60% of the occupied west bank. The Palestinians persist in the Tsumud mode of resistance. Israeli and international activists join whenever they can - mainly in the region of the South of Hebron hills and the Jordan river. Israeli state forces increase their efforts to exclude the internationals but limited by world PR. In spite of the war mongering, the world economic recession, and the hot whether, the social struggle continue in the main cities. The focus of repression of the joint struggle against the occupation and settler colonialist encroaching lands near settlements was a day after day invasion and harassment in the heroic Nabi Saleh village.

Bil'in

Friday early afternoon, the persistent joint struggle demonstration, west lands of the village, we marched and chanted. 10 Israelis, about 20 internationals, and about two dozen Bil'iners participated in a hot Summer, protesting the robbery of the lands of the village for the building of the settler colonialist town Modi'in Elit. When we approached the separation wall the Israeli state forces started their usual shooting of tear gas canisters reinforced with noise and tear gas grenades and spray of stinking water.
As the wind was friendly the more experienced participants and the more daring new comers succeeded to evade the tear gas again and again and we continued the confrontation for about an hour. Part of the local shabab retaliated the state forces with stones and forced them to hide behind the wall
Another take:
In the early afternoon hours of the second Friday of the Ramadan, some several dozen protesters gathered in Bil'in for the weekly demonstration against the Wall and settlements. The protesters – Bil'iners, Israeli activists and international supporters - made their way towards the separation wall where the army was already based. Upon reaching Abu Lamon grove near the Western stretch of the Wall, protesters were met by volleys of tear-gas canisters, as well as shock grenades and the "skunk" – a water cannon spraying foul-smelling liquid. Since the wind was blowing in the direction of the soldiers, protesters were able to make their way to the Wall and cross the first fence surrounding it. After some clashes the demonstration dispersed. No arrests or injuries were reported.

Al Ma’sara

Meanwhile on Friday, in southern West Bank, several residents were also treated for the effects of tear gas inhalation when Israeli soldiers attacked the villagers of Al Ma’sara as they organized their weekly anti wall and settlements protest which called this week for boycotting Israeli products.
Residents and international supporters marched near the construction site of the wall and were faced with tear gas fired by Israeli troops operating in the area.

Al-Nabi Saleh

Thursday Live bullets and a lot of tear gas shot now in the village during a clashes between al shabab and IOF
Friday, Israeli soldiers attacked the weekly protest at Al-Nabi Saleh village near Ramallah wounding four people including a 9-year old child.
The villagers marched after the midday prayers towards the confiscated lands, however, Israeli troops stopped them by firing several rounds of rubber-coated steel bullets and a number of tear gas canisters. Nine-year old Mohammad Tamimi was hit in his arm with a tear gas canister and was moved to the hospital for treatment.
Three others were wounded with rubber-coated steel bullets however, their wounds were described as minor.

Ni'lin

Despite the hot weather, demonstration took place in the neighboring village of Ni'ilin, where a few dozen protesters marched towards the concrete Wall built on the village's olive groves. The army shot tear-gas and used the skunk to disperse the crowd. A young man wounded by a bullet. Picture of confrontations today:

Kafr Qaddum

"The legend of the village Qaddum. It is an open secret that I love the village. So what did we have?
Seven Israelis and a number of international joined two hundred Palestinians in the demonstration.
This week we demonstrated in a scorching sun and terrible heat, against the closing of the road and land theft.
The demonstration started in a procession accompanied by music as the inhabitants refuse to be suppressed and depressed.
The army in its turn shot a really huge amount of tear gas. And the Shabab that do not give in responded in intense fight beck: burning tires and slingshots were there aplenty.
Unfortunately spray of skunk water was aplenty too.
The army moved slowly into the village and in the surrounding mountains on the left and continued to shoot more and more tear gas.
They filled the village with clouds of smoke and tear gas.
Some who suffocated by tear gas inhalation received treatment there.
After the demonstration were invited to personally visit the mourners of 14 year-old boy who was killed in a car accident.
Of course we attended it as our presence was important to them.
On a personal note, even if it took time till us Israelis we were admitted as partners, today is not the case and we are already welcome and blessed.
And no one should be mistaken about it."

Palestine-Israel, The pick of the summer was joined by the Muslim Ramadan day fasting holy days... but we do not stop

Palestine-Israel, The pick of the summer was joined by the Muslim Ramadan day fasting holy days... but we do not stop

It is hot. Very hot in the middle of the days in the middle of the summer. The Palestinian people of the villages who follow the Muslim religion started this Friday the Ramadan holy days in which eating and drinking is forbidden when the Sun is shining. So the joint demonstrations were a bit shorter and smaller, but more lively as it is the season when lot of international activists have their Summer vacation. We had this week the usual Friday demos in Bil'in, Ma'asara, Nabi Saleh, Ni'ilin, Kufr Qaddum, Sheikh Jarrah and Saturday at Beit Ummar. Accompanying villagers near colonialist settlement in the South Hebron hills... and along the week - picking on Saturday late evening the Social Struggle. Though the demonstrations in Tel Aviv are only with thousands of participants each but they are much more militant and radical comparing to last year.

Bil'in

Friday demo. At noon, about 20 international activists from all over the world, joined 15 Israelis and two dozen Bil'iners. We traveled to the Abu Lamun oaks park
Near the separation fence, and marched chanting towards the separation wall. Some of us entered between the barbed wire spools and the wall, but after a while we heard the warming up of the skunk water sprayer pump and distanced to a safe distance. After the spray started, the wind carried it towards us forcing us to retreat further. Then, the state forces started to shoot tear gas grenade to force us to retreat further. The wind this day was not friendly and many of us got a significant dose of tear gas on the way back to the village.

Ma'asara

"...Protesters march to the entrance of the village & ask the soldiers who are blocking the road to “allow” them to go to their lands.

During week days, the villagers can get to their lands , but what happens in Ma’asara weekly demonstrations illustrates what I think is an important point: even the most peaceful, non violent form of resistance is banned within the lines of the west bank according to the martial law. This time the soldiers didn’t even bother to present a closed military zone warrant, ignoring their own regulations, and absurdity: how come going on that road is safe during weekdays, but becomes dangerous for about half an hour when a group of un-armed villagers and internationals show up? People who join the weekly demonstrations of Al Ma’asara for the first time seem to complain the demonstration isn’t effective but rather symbolic, that the scenario is already known before the demonstration started and it looks like a staged act for the internationals. But what I see is that this “staged act” highlights some of the reality of civil population living under martial law: the soldiers can arbitrarily decide wither a gathering is legal or not, as they see fit. Unlike protests within 48 borders, where police is instructed not to intervene small-medium protests, the villagers are met with ridiculous protester-soldiers rate , and are met with heavily armed forces.

“They have a wall within their mind” said one protester as another person offered the soldiers to drop his guns and come visit his home. Another villager asked the soldiers where is the promised peace. Dialogue with heavily armed soldiers produces a lot of unforgettable scenes , although this kind of dialogue is futile by nature & has certain theatrical quality.

It is important for me to keep in mind that a large portion of Al Ma’asara agricultural lands has already been confiscated & over 3000 dunums are at risk of being seized to build the annexation wall. Attending the weekly protest help me remember that.

Activists are reporting that the IOF have withdrawn from the village to the base of the mountain/village entrance. Demo is over for the day.

South Hebron hills

This week we will accompany Palestinians farmers and shepherds to their lands in several locations in South Hebron hills. Harassment of Palestinian farmers and shepherds in the area by both settlers and the army continues

Social Struggle

Saturday late evening. There were convergences and marches in commemoration of Moshe Silman who burned himself the previous Saturday demo in Tel Aviv after distributing leaflets, and died a day before. The main ones were in Jerusalem, and Haifa, Beer Sheva, with few hundreds each and one of more than thousand in Tel Aviv which blocked main roads for more than 4 hours.
In TA, many fire men were among the demonstrators with fire extinguishing devices. Report: Police intelligence told to target Israeli Arabs joining social protests - and one was the only arrestee Saturday demo in Tel Aviv
Unlike the directives about Jewish demonstrators, which focus on rioters and anarchists, a directive issued to intelligence officers does not specify which type of Arab demonstrators police should watch out for.
